Weddings (Holy Matrimony)
If you have just got engaged and are looking into organising a wedding, congratulations!
We are very happy to organise weddings at St Alphage' s and you should contact Fr Luke if you would like to speak about how and when. Who can get married where is regulated by law - but if you are unsure speak to a member of the clergy. We will be happy to help if we can.
It is advised you speak to a member of the clergy as soon as possible to arrange a date and to work out what legal matters need to be sorted. Please read through all the information below and then complete the form at the bottom of the page.
1) Check you can get married here:
Who can get married in which Church of England Church is prescribed by law.
Please note that we keep to a traditional understanding of marriage, which includes it is a life-long-commitment, and is between a man and woman. This means that if one or both of you is divorced, it will not be possible to marry here if your former spouse is still living.
You may get married at this Church if at least ONE of the following is true:
you or your partner have
at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months OR
was baptised (christened) or confirmed here OR
have at ant time regularly gone to normal church services here for at least 6 months.
OR
one of your parents
has at any time after you were born lived in the parish for at least 6 months OR
regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months.
OR
one of your parents or grandparents were married in the parish.
2) Want to know prices?
The fees payable for your wedding are set by the Church of England.
The wedding ceremony itself currently is set at £544. Though you will also have to pay (£37) to get your Banns read here in Church (and in the Church of the parish you live in, if different).
Please note that these are the fees for the year 2025 - and the Church may increase (or decrease) them with inflation in the 2026 year, but they will roughly be in line with this. If you are intending to get married in 2026 then you will need to pay the fees for that year.
Please note these fees do not include hire of our organist (£100)
